Bilingual education is focused on the use of English and internationalization
The worlds of business, academics and culture expect a high command of the English language. Our universities and colleges often conduct lessons and lectures in English and students may follow part of their educational courses abroad.
Many international businesses and companies in the Netherlands use English as their primary language of use. As the borders within Europe fade there has been a merging of the international with the national and the use of computers and the internet expands rapidly. In many countries English has become the most important second language.
Bilingual education gives students the opportunity to get a thorough command of the English language. Offering cultural and international activities raises international awareness and involvement. These are some of the reasons that steadily more parents and children are choosing bilingual education. Many parents and students are looking for an extra challenge. Traditionally this has been offered by the classical grammar school education. More recently bilingual education, now sometimes called the modern grammar school, has become an important alternative and the number of schools offering this form of education is increasing.
